Interval between engine oil changes: Even if the manufacturer recommends maintenance every 20,000 km, it is strongly recommended, on this 2.0 TDI engine, to replace the oil every 7,500 to 10,000 km to preserve your engine. Injector leaks; if you observe black oil traces around the injector, experience a loss of power, the engine is noisy, and there is an odor of unburned gas in the cabin. It is important to treat this problem quickly because the carbon deposits formed around the injector cause oil contamination, which will eventually reduce lubrication of the turbocharger and lead to its failure. The oil sump strainer and the banjo bolt filter on the turbo oil inlet are the two elements most sensitive to this contamination. The quality of engine oil: use a high-quality oil with a viscosity of 5w30 or 5w40, seek advice from a specialist. The EGR valve can also cause oil contamination, so it must be checked before replacing the turbocharger. On certain models, the oil sump must be replaced when replacing the turbocharger because it has a design defect that prevents complete drainage of used oil during oil changes. If you have a yellow oil dipstick, inquire!

The capacity increases from 3.4 liters to 3.9 liters, which requires replacing the oil dipstick, which is then orange. The cause of lack of lubrication and deterioration of the quality of the engine oil has several possible explanations. Turbo failure is generally due to a lack of lubrication.

The turbo shaft relies on pressurized engine oil, it rotates at extreme speeds. Any lack of oil quickly damages it! 1 Drain the engine oil by adding a pre-drain engine cleaner and replacing the oil filter twice in a row: The engine oil must be at operating temperature. The vehicle must be on a horizontal surface (lengthwise and widthwise). Loosen the oil filter so that the oil can drain completely.

Remove the filling cap and the dipstick. Let the oil drain through the lower sump. Do not use suction to drain. 2 Clean: Clean the oil cooler and the engine side filter with brake cleaner and dry the parts with compressed air.

Clean the vacuum pump strainer with brake cleaner and dry it with compressed air. IMPORTANT: If the oil appears contaminated, you must flush the system before continuing. On vehicles with less than 60,000 km, clean the lower engine sump. On vehicles with more than 60,000 km, replace the oil sump strainer.

3 Check/replace oil lines: Replace the oil supply hose with a new one. Replace the hollow screw of the oil inlet and its seals.

Replace the oil return hose, its fitting, and its seals. 4 Fill with oil and test: Replace the oil filter with a new one. Install the drain plug with a new seal.

Fill the engine oil to the correct level. Position the oil return hose in a suitable collector tray. Start the engine and let it idle for 60 seconds.

The amount of oil drained must exceed 500ml during the 60 seconds. IMPORTANT: Do not run the engine if the oil level is below the minimum. 5 Fill the oil: Properly connect the new oil return hose to the turbocharger.

Fill the engine oil to the required quantity. Let the engine idle until the oil pressure warning light goes out (max. Stop the engine and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Check the oil level on the dipstick. It should be near the maximum level without exceeding it. 6 Additional checks: Visual check of the injectors, if there is soot, it may indicate a leaking injector. Resolve the problem before continuing. If it is contaminated, clean or replace it.

Check the particle filter and replace it if necessary. Checks to be carried out before replacing your turbo and to prevent possible failure after its replacement: Check the injector seals. Remove the air inlet pipe to the turbocharger to check if the compressor wheel nut is present or not: - If the nut is present, check for axial and longitudinal play and if the blades do not touch the compressor housing. If the nut is missing, it must be found before installing the new turbocharger. Check the vacuum pump and its inlet filter.

If too clogged, it must be replaced, otherwise clean it. Check all hoses and ducts, including the exhaust, and make sure there are no foreign bodies, narrowing, or pinching. Remove and clean the air cooler (intercooler) and the breather system. All filtration elements must be replaced: oil filter, air filter, strainer, banjo bolt, vacuum pump if the strainer is too clogged. Check that the particulate filter (DPF) and the catalytic converter are not blocked or heavily clogged.
